Built in the mid-1800s, the fort was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1970 and is one of the best-preserved examples of military fortification on the New England coast. The bridge was opened to the public in May 2007 and is the tallest public bridge observatory in the world!
Open year-round, the historic site hosts Civil War reenactments, a pirate festival, Shakespeare Under the Stars, and the Ghosts of Fort Knox Tours.
